Frypan Granola

Updated: Mar 29, 2023

Granola is typically made in the oven and is often high in calories (kilojoules). So I wanted to make a recipe that is easy to make, tastes great and is lower in kilojoules.

There is not much to say about this recipe except that I didn't need to use oil at all. All oils and fats are high in kilojoules - 37kJ/gram. Which is even higher than alcohol at 29kJ/gram. Protein and carbs have the lowest at 17kJ/gram. So for every teaspoon of oil at about 5 grams, you would be having 185kJ. I'm not advocating for no fats in our diet, but we tend to get plenty without adding in extra. If you think about this granola, you will find fat in the nuts and seeds. So if you can get away with not adding fats or oils, or even just using less than most recipes suggest, then you are saving yourself a lot of kilojoules (calories). Unless you are trying to put on weight. In that case they can be very useful.

Try out this recipe and let me know what you think, or any modifications that you have tried.

Enjoy!
